Use Medux MCP in Devin Desktop
Add the Medux-hosted remote MCP server to Devin Desktop with mcp_config.json, verify it in Cascade, and call Medux media tools from chat.
How to start
Sign in and get your Medux API key. It looks like sk-medux-... — copy it once and store it safely.
Open the Cascade panel's ... menu, then the open-file icon in the MCPs section, to edit mcp_config.json (located at ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json). Add the server with serverUrl and a headers entry. ${env:NAME} is replaced with the environment variable's value.

"mcpServers": {
"medux": {
"serverUrl": "https://mcp.medux.io/api/mcp/v1",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${env:MEDUX_API_KEY}"
}
}
}
}Set MEDUX_API_KEY before launching Devin Desktop, because apps opened from the Dock or Start menu may not see your shell profile. You can also paste the key directly into the header, but keep the file private.
Save the file and restart Devin Desktop. In the Cascade panel's MCPs section, confirm medux is listed with its tools enabled (use the toggle next to it to turn it on or off), then run a prompt that needs a Medux tool.
Use it from a prompt. Start Devin Desktop in the folder that holds your files and mention Medux so it picks the right tool.
Use Medux to generate a 1024x1024 image of a red fox in watercolor style.How a call works: Devin Desktop chooses a medux_* tool and fills in its parameters. For a local file it first calls medux_file_create_upload_url, uploads the file to the returned upload_url with an HTTP PUT (using the returned content_type), then passes the file_id to the tool. Most tools run as async tasks, so it polls medux_task_query with the task_id until the result URL is ready.
To find the exact tool for a capability, open Playground, switch to For AI Agents, and read the MCP tab for its mcp_tool_id.
What this means
- Server missing: check mcp_config.json is valid JSON and restart Devin Desktop.
- 401 Unauthorized: the key is empty. If you used ${env:MEDUX_API_KEY}, launch Devin Desktop from a shell where the variable is set.
- Tools missing: Cascade allows 100 tools in total across all MCP servers. Disable servers you do not need.
- Local-file upload fails: upload URLs expire. Ask the agent to request a new one and send the exact content_type it returns.
- Insufficient credits: top up or upgrade on the Pricing page. MCP calls use the same credits as the public API.
